Dysport™ was approved by the FDA in the United States in April 2009, and has steadily gained in popularity around the world. Today, Dysport™ is marketed and sold for cosmetic use in 36 countries. Dysport™ has a smaller molecule than BOTOX® allowing for a faster onset of effects (2-3 days compared to 7-10 days) and is also less expensive than BOTOX®.

Dysport™ can smooth out facial lines by temporarily immobilizing the muscles you use to frown, allowing for more youthful and less stressed facial expressions. You will be physically unable to frown after your treatment and may even lose the urge to frown. The amount of time that the smoothing effects are visible following a treatment with Dysport™ can differ between individuals; further treatment may be necessary. Effects from Dysport™ longer than those from BOTOX® Cosmetic, especially in younger patients.

Dysport has also been used to treat hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) in the armpits, avoiding embarrassing underarm stains.

What can Dysport™ do for you?
Your facial muscles contract and your skin creases when you laugh, frown, concentrate, or squint into the sun. Skin loses its elasticity as you get older and creases deepen into lines that become permanent. Frown lines between your eyebrows can become noticeable at a relatively young age, giving you an angry or worried appearance, even when you are not.
By temporarily immobilizing the muscles that you use to make facial expressions, Dysport™ can smooth out lines and restore a more youthful, less stressed expression on your face. Individual results may vary.

What is Dysport™?
Dysport™ is a protein that has been extracted from the bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. The protein was originally used for the treatment of various kinds of involuntary muscular spasms, including cerebral palsy, and motor disorders. It was also developed to treat a wide variety of neuromuscular disorders, for which it is licensed in over 60 countries.

How is Dysport™ used?
Small amounts of Dysport™ are injected into the facial muscles that underlie the expression lines. Your treatment will take about 10 minutes. Within a few days, the muscles gradually relax. You will not notice this occurring; you will just become aware that you are not able to contract your treated muscles. You will be able to blink and raise your eyebrows normally, and the untreated facial muscles will still be able to contract normally. This allows you to freely show facial expressions, such as smiling, while enjoying a more youthful appearance.

Who can benefit from Dysport™?
Dysport™ can benefit people with deep frown lines. It will work as well for men as it will for women.

What are the side effects or risks with Dysport™?
Most commonly, side effects are temporary soreness to mild bruising around the injection site. A slight headache that lasts for several hours after treatment is experienced by some people; it is safe to take a mild pain killer if necessary. In a very small percentage of cases there can be drooping of the eyelid, which may last a few days, up to 4 weeks. It is rare, but an allergic reaction can cause a skin rash or "flulike" symptoms.
You should not have Dysport™ treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or at all if you have a neuromuscular disease.
