May

May is National Cancer Awareness month.

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancer types and there are more than 1 million skin cancers diagnosed each year in the U.S.

Long-term exposure to the sun’s UV rays can cause prematurely aged skin, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dark patches, pre-cancerous skin changes, and skin cancers.

The good news is there is a lot you can do to protect yourself.

·        Limit direct sun exposure during midday

·        Cover up

·        Wear sunglasses that block UV rays

·        Use a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher; use it regularly and properly

·        Wear a hat

·        Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps

  • Get you skin examined by your doctor regularly
